How PTI hijacked social media?
The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf has always been innovative, using digital media to establish a name for itself and its leader Imran Khan. The team, which was distributed across the globe, was tasked with promoting the PTI official hashtags not only for their jalsas (gathering) but also every little bit of the happenings associated with PTI and Chairman PTI Imran Khan.
As many of the trending hashtags on twitter in Pakistan are mostly of PTI and Chairman PTI Imran. It has been observed that over 22,000 accounts currently posts from a variety of countries, including the UK, Saudi Arabia, and (a majority in) the US in favor of PTI.
Since the Panamagate scandal in 2016, the PTI has been successful in influencing the major institutes of the country including judiciary, establishment through social media campaigns, but it is yet unclear whether or not their approach is effective all the time or not.
Through the means of social media, the military establishment is being pressured by Imran Khan and the PTI for multiple reasons. The defence forces, though, are resolved to maintain their apolitical stance on this matter. But the widespread use of social media by PTI supporters shows that social media is the biggest medium used by them.
However, due of the destructive campaign conducted against the army and its head, the tactics being utilized by a sizable number of Tehreek-e-Insaf social media supporter branded by Imran Khan as his “social media warriors” are all time ready to backfire on twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
These social media operations have also plainly angered the nation’s military leadership. According to defence insiders, they have all the proof of how these defamation operations against the army and its officials have been carried out. In all such circumstances, it shows that PTI is highly influencing social media platforms.
