Rishi Sunak wins race to become next PM of the UK
As the winner of the contest to succeed Liz Truss as leader of the Conservative Party, Rishi Sunak will take office as the next prime minister of the United Kingdom. Penny Mordaunt, the only opponent, withdrew from the race after receiving little support.
After several weeks of political and economic unrest, Sunak will become the third British prime minister in two months as a result of the election. He will be the first person of colour to serve as president because he is a Briton of Indian blood.
Sunak has been named as the UK Conservative Party’s new leader. Sunak is on track to become the nation’s next prime minister after being elected as the Conservative Party’s new leader by the president of the 1922 Committee of Conservative parliamentarians.
The committee decides how to choose and replace the party’s leader. The criteria for choosing and replacing the party’s leader are established by the committee.
Rishi Sunak will take over as the future prime minister of the UK as a result of Mordaunt’s announcement that she is quitting the race to succeed Liz Truss.
She wrote, “We all owe it to the country, to each other, and to Rishi to come together and work for the welfare of the nation.
Iain Duncan Smith, a former leader of the Conservatives, supports Sunak as PM. Former Conservative Party leader Iain Duncan Smith, who supported Truss during her leadership race against Sunak in the summer, has said that he now supports the former chancellor.
