Court awards life term to Barrister Fahad Malik’s killers after six years

All three defendants in the infamous Fahad Malik murder case have received life sentences from a local court in Islamabad.

The verdict that was reserved last week was announced by session judge Ata Rabbani on Tuesday. The court sentenced the murderers, Raja Arshad, Raja Hashim, and Nauman Khokhar, to life in prison in the case of British National Barrister Fahad Malik.

On August 15, 2016, a gunshot on a popular thoroughfare in Sector F-10, Islamabad, resulted in the death of Barrister Fahad Malik. Malik was acting for a client when he left Shalimar Police Station after his shift when his car was halted and he was shot many times.

Raja Arshad, Nauman Khokar, and Raja Hashim Khan were detained on suspicion of murder. A few days after the murder, Arshad was apprehended by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) near the Torkham border as he attempted to flee to Afghanistan.

British national Barrister Fahad had made Pakistan his home. He was also the brother-in-law of PTI leader and former SAPM Zulfi Bukhari. He was the nephew of former SAPM and Senate chairman Mohammad Mian Soomro.

Judge Ata Rabani of the District and Sessions Court heard the matter last week. Raja Arshad, Noman Khokhar, and Raja Hashim, the three defendants, were brought before the judge. Prosecutor Rana Hassan asserted at the start of the hearing that the plaintiff’s car had gunshot holes in it when it was found at the crime site. He said that the police had impounded the cars belonging to the defendants, the plaintiff, and the victim, Barrister Fahad Malik. Additionally, the police had found the mafia organization’s vehicle No. 333, which was the target of numerous murder cases.

According to the prosecutor, Fahad Malik was also threatened by accused Raja Arshad at a police station. He referenced the ruling of the supreme court and asked the court to punish the defendants with exceptional severity. The court reserved the decision in the murder case after hearing the arguments.
