Today, Google introduced Career Certificates, a flexible learning path that enables all Pakistanis to advance their knowledge and build the digital skills they need for in-demand careers. By providing 15,000 scholarships by the end of this year through local partners IRM and Ignite, which are made up of educational institutions, business partners, and organizations, Google has furthered its objective to Unlock Pakistan’s Digital Potential.
According to a survey by AlphaBeta, digital technologies might generate up to PKR 9.7 Trillion (USD 59.7 Billion) in economic value annually in Pakistan by 2030 if properly utilized. The ICT industry in Pakistan has grown significantly during the last ten years, with an average annual revenue growth rate of 20–30%. ICT-related exports presently surpass US$5 billion, and the Ministry of IT & Telecommunication predicts that the industry will soon overtake all others as the nation’s top exporter. The ICT sector currently employs 4.7% of Pakistan’s workforce, with 6%, or 200,000 workers, being women. According to data from Rozee.pk, Pakistan’s top job portal, the ICT sector also has the most open positions.
Google Career Certificates, which are offered on the online learning platform Coursera, are self-paced online training programmes that let learners who lack any previous experience or a college degree open up new career opportunities in six different fields: data analytics, IT support, IT automation, project management, UX Design, and digital marketing & e-commerce. Each certificate is made by Google’s own specialists and is intended to give students practical experience while they are studying or working, giving them the freedom to advance at their own pace.

Google will offer scholarships for 15,000 students to receive certificates at no cost in order to give even more Pakistanis the chance to benefit from Google Career Certificates. IRM and Ignite will work with Google to disburse the scholarships.
