Invocation of Article 6 on Today’s Voice Call Leak
The debate regarding Article 6 has gone viral on social media due to today’s breaking news related to Shaukat Tarin’s voice call leak.
There are some few points which are essential to know regarding Article 6 such as “any person who abrogates or subverts or in the same way suspends and holds in abeyance, or attempts or conspires to abrogate or subvert or suspend or hold in abeyance, the Constitution by use of force or show of force or by any other unconstitutional means shall be guilty of high treason.”
The second clause adds that any person aiding, abetting or collaborating in all such acts will be considered as to be guilty of high treason. With today’s event, invoking Article 6 has been a major trend on social media platforms including Twitter.
People elsewhere considering it to be a very alarming situation and highlighting it as a main threat of dismantling the state. As people have been questioning, criticising, and expressing utmost disappointment at the leaked recording (voice call between Shaukat Tarin and Punjab Finance Minister Awais Leghari). Public is demanding that whosoever is involved in this act including the former Prime Minister Imran Khan must be arrested alongside prosecuted under Article 6.
The question arises that within the political tussle, everyone is compromising on state. As IMF deal tends to bring economic stability in the state but unfortunately political instability is the main impediment towards the prosperous future. Such moves can ultimately sabotage not only the integrity of Pakistan but also can pose unprecedented challenges to the already dwindled economy of the state.
The letter which according to Shaukat Tarin as heard in voice call can stop IMF for releasing a 750 billion dollars for the country. This move has been constantly pointed out by the PDM government as a grave betrayal against the state.
It would be worth mentioning that these audio leaks have successfully diverted the attention of people of Pakistan from the catastrophic flood situation. This petty politics will have repercussions on the stature of the state in days to come.
