Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Monday ordered the concerned departments to immediately begin work on Rawalpindi’s Ring Road and Lai Nullah Expressway projects.
In Lahore, he presided over a high-level meeting convened to review development plans for the garrison city.
The meeting was informed that the Lai Nullah Expressway project was originally estimated to have cost Rs110 billion to complete. On the orders of the chief minister, the project would now cost only Rs46 billion, it was reported.
During the construction of the Ring Road, the chief minister directed that transparency and the proper use of government funds be maintained. Chaudhry Pervaiz commanded, “It should also be ensured that the residents of the area surrounding the construction site experience no inconvenience.”
He added that other roads would also be widened to eliminate traffic problems in the city. “We will also discuss the proposal to construct housing for those who will be displaced by these projects,” he said.
Stopping work on a clean drinking water project for the residents of Murree, according to the provincial minister, constituted “criminal negligence.”
“The Punjab government intends to launch a similar project in Rawalpindi,” he informed the gathering.
