Pakistan strongly condemned the launch of a ballistic missile by Yemen’s Huthis toward Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh, which was aimed at civilians and infrastructure, The Asian Mirror reported.
However, the successful interception of the ballistic missile by the Royal Saudi Air Defence prevented the loss of innocent lives, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Office in Islamabad.
“Such attacks not only violate international law, but also endanger the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s and the region’s peace and security.” “Pakistan demands an immediate halt to these attacks,” it said.
According to the FO, Pakistan reiterated its full support and solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the face of any threats to its security and territorial integrity.
Saudi Arabia attacks Sanaa after the Huthis launch a missile.
Saudi Arabia said early Tuesday that it had launched overnight air raids on Yemeni targets in retaliation for a ballistic missile launched by Huthi rebels, destroying the launch site in Sanaa.
“We have destroyed sites in Sanaa linked to ballistic missiles and drones,” said the official Saudi news agency, SPA.
It had previously stated that the Saudi army intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile fired at the kingdom by Huthi rebels in neighbouring Yemen.
Iran-backed Huthi insurgents control much of northern Yemen, including the capital Sanaa, which they took over in 2014.
A year later, a Saudi-led coalition intervened in Yemen to support the government in a conflict that has killed tens of thousands and displaced millions.
According to the SPA, the retaliatory strike targeted “caves and secret ballistic missile warehouses on the outskirts of Sanaa.”
According to the news agency, the Saudi defence ministry condemned the Huthi missile launch and the rebels’ “vicious and irresponsible behaviour of targeting civilians.”
“The ministry of defence will take all necessary and deterrent measures to protect civilians and its territory,” according to the SPA.
