National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf agreed Thursday to bring Imran Khan’s disqualification in the Tosha Khana case to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) as soon as possible.
Ayaz Sadiq, Federal Minister, had filed the reference.
According to reliable sources, Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf discussed the reference with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and former President Asif Ali Zardari.
After consulting with legal and constitutional experts, the National Assembly speaker approved the referral.
“In the Tosha Khana case, former Prime Minister Imran Khan may be disqualified under Article 62,” legal experts warned.
The National Assembly speaker has given the go-ahead to refer the case to the ECP in which Imran Khan is accused of obtaining gifts from Tosha Khana and illegally selling them.
According to National Assembly sources, “the referral will be sent to the ECP next week.”
