The Punjab government declared public holidays for the 9th and 10th of Muharram—Monday and Tuesday—on Thursday.
According to the announcement, all public and private organizations would be closed on both days.
The public holidays are August 8th (Monday) and August 9th (Tuesday) (Tuesday).
On Wednesday, Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi presided over a meeting of the Ittehad Bain-ul-Muslimeen Committee Punjab, which was attended by ulema from all schools of thought.
The conference offered Fateha to the martyrs of the army helicopter disaster and others who died in rain-related incidents across the country, as well as condolences to the bereaved families.
The chief minister’s remarkable attempt to make the affidavit of the Finality of Prophethood (PBUH) essential in marriage certificates was highly praised. The ulema claimed this historic step would be remembered forever and referred to CM as a “Mujahid Wazir-e-Ala.”
The CM stated that ulema and mashaikh have always guided the nation and praised their role in promoting brotherhood, tolerance, and unity in society. During Muharram, special committees comprised of administrative, police, and ulema authorities were formed in districts to promote religious tolerance and harmony. Decisions would be made in consultation to ensure societal peace at the grassroots, he said.
