Late on Tuesday night in Ajmer, the Rajasthan police detained Salman Chishti, who is accused of promising to give away his home and possessions to whoever beheaded suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma. According to a Thursday article in The Hindu, he is also a khadim (worker) at Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti’s historic dargah in Ajmer.
In Udaipur, Salman Chishti recorded his announcement; however, after it was reported to the police, the video went viral. Since the police filed a case against him earlier this week, he has been on the run.
His criminal history includes charges of attempted murder, shooting, causing injury, and criminal intimidation; the majority of these cases were reported to the Ajmer dargah police station. He was taken into custody by the police from his home close to the shrine, and they speculated that he may have been drunk when he recorded the video.
Syed Zainul Abedin, the custodian of the Ajmer dargah, denounced the video and declared that Salman Chishti’s viewpoint should not be interpreted as coming from the shrine. “The dargah is a holy location of social harmony. People from all backgrounds go to the shrine to find spiritual fulfillment. These provocative comments should only be viewed as one person’s assertion, according to Mr. Abedin.
Two-party spokespersons for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal, for their offensive comments about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that caused outrage in the Islamic world.
