Sindh cabinet approves Rs1.71 trillion ‘budget of the poor’

The Sindh cabinet approved Budget 2022-23 on Tuesday, which has a total outlay of Rs1.71 trillion and was dubbed the “budget of the poor” by the provincial chief executive.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah will present the provincial budget to the assembly today (Tuesday).

Murad Ali Shah presided over a cabinet meeting that included his ministers, advisors, special assistants, chief secretaries, principal secretaries, and other relevant officers.

“This budget is the budget of the poor,” the chief minister said on several occasions. He added that the province’s budget included provisions for social security and economic stability.

The budget, according to Murad, was the result of collaboration between members of the provincial cabinet and stakeholders.

Sindh minister Gyanchand Israni urged the cabinet to provide special packages for health facilities in the Kohistan region during the meeting.

The Sindh government is set to present its budget for the next financial year 2022-23, which will see a total outlay increase of over Rs100 billion.

The government has set aside Rs128 billion for law and order, Rs8 billion for mass transit to run around 100 hybrid buses, and Rs4 billion for the Peoples Bus Service Project, according to initial budget proposals.
