The Pakistan Cricket Board has reportedly directed the former “Pindiz” PSL franchise to adopt a name that clearly reflects its home city, with the team now appearing as “Rawalpindiz” across all official social media platforms.
Although neither the PCB nor the franchise has issued a formal statement, the branding change is already visible online, with the team updating its accounts to align with the league’s city-affiliation guidelines.
City affiliation drives name change
The franchise had initially been listed by the PCB as “Rawalpindi Pindiz,” but the team continued using “Pindiz” on its own across social media, a decision that drew mixed reactions from fans and commentators since the name was unveiled in February 2026.
Sources familiar with the matter said the PCB instructed the franchise to include “Rawalpindi” in its official name to comply with the city-link requirement.
The naming discrepancy became more noticeable after a PSL update referred to the team as “Rawalpindiz,” while the franchise’s press release at the same time still used “Pindiz.” Since then, the team has standardized its public-facing branding, updating all social handles and platforms to “Rawalpindiz.”
From Multan Sultans to Rawalpindiz
The franchise originally operated as the Multan Sultans before being acquired by Walee Technologies for a record Rs. 2.45 billion. Following the acquisition, the team relocated to Rawalpindi ahead of the 2026 PSL 11 season.
The initial “Pindiz” branding sparked debate online, with fans divided over whether it adequately represented the city and its cricketing heritage. The new “Rawalpindiz” identity aims to resolve that confusion and reinforce the team’s connection to Rawalpindi as it prepares for the upcoming tournament.
