Abid Ali, Pakistan’s opening batter, vowed on Tuesday to maintain his momentum for the second Test against Bangladesh after Pakistan thrashed the hosts by eight wickets in the first Test of the series.
Ali scored a century on Day 1 of the Test match, followed by a half-century on Day 4. He was named Player of the Match for the Chittagong Test after scoring 133 and 91.
In an interview with the Pakistan Cricket Board following the victory, the batter stated that the team is looking forward to winning the second Test match as well.
“We’re attempting to climb the World Test Championship points table,” Abid explained.
Speaking about his performance in the first Test, the cricketer expressed his delight at being named Player of the Match, adding that the domestic cricket he played prior to the Test series boosted his confidence.
Abid Ali admitted that he was unable to score a century in the second innings, but that “this performance is now a thing of the past.”
“I have to play with the same enthusiasm in Dhaka now,” Abid said.
Abid congratulated his opening batting partner, Abdullah Shafiq, on his international debut, and praised him for playing with confidence.
“Our plan was to stay on the wickets,” Abid explained, adding that the two kept pointing out each other’s mistakes.
The Bangladesh men’s national cricket team popularly known as The Tigers is administered by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). It is a Full Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) with Test, One-Day International (ODI) and T20 International (T20I) status. It played its first Test match in November 2000 against India with a 9-wicket loss in Dhaka, becoming the tenth Test-playing nation. Bangladesh became an associate member of the ICC in 1977, and competed in six ICC Trophies, the leading ODI competition for non-Test playing nations.
