Virat Kohli and Nida Dar bagged ICC Player of the Month awards
The winners of the ICC Player of the Month awards for October 2022 were revealed today by the International Cricket Council (ICC). As India advanced to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup semifinals, Virat Kohli won the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award, and Pakistan’s senior all-rounder Nida Dar won the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for her outstanding play during their Women’s Asia Cup campaign.
Following a global poll among media representatives, ICC Hall of Famers, former international players, and fans registered at icc-cricket.com, both Kohli and Dar were chosen as the winners.
After scoring 205 runs with the bat and demonstrating his complete range of batting skills during October, Kohli celebrates winning his maiden Player of the Month award. He scored an amazing innings in the shocking triumph over Pakistan in front of a capacity crowd in Melbourne to start their Super 12 campaign in the Men’s T20 World Cup, in addition to delivering a superb half-century against Netherlands in Sydney. With his side trailing by four wickets at 31 for four, Kohli demonstrated his dominance over the opposing bowlers in a memorable act of restrained aggression. Kohli’s unbeaten 82 from 53 balls helped his team successfully chase down the 160 target on the final ball.
The India talisman wins the prize after being nominated for the first time. He defeats a strong field that included Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza and South Africa’s in-form David Miller, both of whom made significant contributions at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia.
It is a wonderful honour for me to have been chosen as the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for October, Kohli said in response to receiving the award. This honour is much more meaningful to me because the panel and fans from around the world chose me as the standout player.
I want to honour the other nominees who did so well throughout the month as well as my teammates who have continued to encourage me to work hard.
Daren Ganga, a former player for the West Indies and member of the ICC Player of the Month voting panel, continued, “Kohli is the ideal hitter. He showed tremendous courage to recover from a slump with the bat. He scored an unbeaten 49 against South Africa in October, and then at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, he added two half centuries.”
“That magnificent inning against Pakistan will go down as one of the greatest T20I innings ever. I witnessed it in person at the MCG, and only the greatest players in this beautiful game had the luxury of delivering in such style on such an occasion.”
Nida Dar is named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for October in recognition of her significant contributions to Pakistan’s run to the Women’s Asia Cup semifinals in Bangladesh.
Even though Pakistan was unsuccessful in the knockout stages, the important all-rounder demonstrated her worth to the team by scoring 145 important runs at an average of 72.50 and taking eight crucial wickets during the month.
Dar was outstanding in Sylhet’s historic triumph over India, one of the highlights of her October. She batted first and came to the crease at 33 for three. She then powered 56 not out to bring them to a challenging total of 137. As the eventual tournament winners just missed winning in dramatic fashion, she went on to shine with the ball, capturing the crucial wickets of Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues.
Dar beats out Indian teammates Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma, who both put up strong performances during their successful Women’s Asia Cup victory, to earn the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for the first time.
“It was amazing to be nominated for the award, and to win it is really precious to me,” Dar said after receiving the ICC Women’s Player of the Month honour for October. The recent series victory against Ireland at home demonstrates the dedication the girls are putting into their game. I regret that we were unable to win the Women’s Asia Cup, but I am pleased with how well we are doing as a team.
“I take great pride in serving my nation, and I want to do everything I can to help my team win.”

Dirk Nannes, a former player for the Netherlands and Australia who was also a member of the voting committee, continued, “Nida was in fantastic form with bat and ball throughout the month and has been a constant presence for Pakistan women for some time.”
She continues to be a key component of Pakistan’s bowling assault, and she richly deserves to be named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for October.
