Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale is one of the more well-known regulars at Minute Maid Park, and the well-known Astros supporter has left Houston to see his club play in the World Series.
Beyond his fandom, McIngvale has other interests.
If Houston were to win the Commissioner’s Trophy this week, with $10 million on the line and an average payoff of 7.5-to-1 odds, McIngvale would earn a record-breaking payout of $75 million. Of course, he would have to reimburse deserving customers for their purchases because of a continuing promotion at Gallery Furniture. The Astros’ World Series run seems to have him in a very good situation nonetheless, whether it’s in terms of furniture sales or the promotional benefit of apparently limitless publicity from both local and national venues.
At Astros games, McIngvale is frequently spotted waving to fellow fans and grinning widely. After Houston’s 7-0 loss in Game 3, he did appear to have a tense exchange with a Philadelphia Phillies fan at Citizens Bank Park.
It’s important to note that the Philadelphia fans weren’t entirely unfriendly. In fact, McIngvale appeared to take pleasure in a number of memorable interactions with the Phillies supporters this week.
According to the Associated Press, McIngvale declared on Tuesday, “I have no fear in me.” “I have a high level of risk tolerance. There is always tomorrow if I fail.”
The City of Brotherly Love has really earned its name. I’m overwhelmed with how welcoming this city has been. Bless you, Philadelphia, PA, but my beloved @astros are still going to win tonight. Go ‘Stros!#levelup pic.twitter.com/tHW4uhBsfQ
