Kohli achieves another feat by becoming leading run-getter in T20 World Cup

After breaking Jayawardena’s record, Virat Kohli achieves another feat by becoming leading run-getter in Men’s T20 World Cup.

The ICC T20 World Cups in 2014 and 2016 were dominated by Virat Kohli. In 2014, he scored the most runs with 319, which helped India go to the final where they fell to Sri Lanka.

In India’s Group 2 match against Bangladesh in Adelaide on Wednesday, Virat Kohli got a personal score of 16, making him the greatest run-scorer in ICC T20 World Cup history. After India’s captain Rohit Sharma was cheaply replaced, Kohli entered the game early and looked proficient right away. Mahela Jayawardene, a former captain of Sri Lanka, set the previous record with 1016 runs in 31 innings. In the tournament’s history, Kohli was on the field for the 25th time.

The ICC T20 World Cup’s 2014 and 2016 iterations were lit up by the Indian talisman. In 2014, he scored the most runs with 319, which helped India go to the final where they fell to Sri Lanka.

As India was eliminated in the semi-final stage in 2016, Kohli placed second (273) on the run rankings.

Kohli received praise from BCCI for putting yet another feather to his hat.

He had just played the game-winning 82* against Pakistan before going on to play an innings of 62 against the Netherlands. Kohli, though, was removed for 12 against South Africa, ending his streak of victories.

After witnessing captain Rohit Sharma leave the field for only 2 runs against Bangladesh, Kohli was forced to take the field early. It took Kohli a while to get going. In the seventh over, he passed Mahela Jayawardene’s record of 1016 runs in T20 World Cups.

Unquestionably, Virat’s best performance during the T20 World Cup 2022 was against Pakistan. The face of Indian cricket himself acknowledged that he would rate this performance higher than his performance against Australia in Mohali.
