Sunil Gavaskar lashes at Virat Kohli’s recent statement

Former Indian Cricket Captain, released a statement post India vs Pakistan on Virat Kohli press conference. Mr. Kohli had talked about how only MS Dhoni had reached out to him when he announced his test captaincy retirement.

“Everyone comes on television with a plethora of opinions but it does not matter unless you reach out in person if you want the betterment of the person. I remember only MS Dhoni reached out to me when I announced that I won’t be a test captain anymore. NOW, that matters to me”, Kohli had added.

The emotional statement by him had gathered a lot of attention by all cricket lovers all around the world. That includes the former legendary Indian cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar, who believes that Kohli named one person who messaged him but he should have also named people who didn’t reach out.

“I have no idea how the dressing-room situation is but I believe it would’ve been a lot fair for everyone if Kohli had also named others who didn’t message him.”

Sunil Gavaskar also showed skepticism yet surprise in terms of Kohli’s expectation,“What kind of message did Kohli want?”, asked Gavaskar. “If he was expecting encouragement, I will ask, what kind of encouragement? Wasn’t he seemed to be done with captaincy, so why would he need or wait for encouragement?”

Sunil Gavaskar feels that when one leaves the position of captaincy, they should focus on their sole performance. “Now is the time that Kohli focuses on his sole performances. When one is a captain, he also thinks about his mates & their performances. Now when it’s over, focus on your game”.

It is also pertinent to mention that Sunil Gavaskar also talked about his time when he quit captaincy in 1985, he emphasized that no one called or messaged him either. “We rather hugged & partied that night. What do you expect apart from that? asked the legendary Sunil Gavaskar.
