WhatsApp is now working on a new feature that should make it easier to stay on top of important messages: manual notification reminders for individual chat messages.

The feature, currently rolling out to select users via the latest Android beta update (version 2.25.21.14), can set personalized alerts for messages within chats, ensuring nothing important gets buried away.

With this update, beta testers can long-press any message, access the message options menu, and now see a “Set Reminder” option.

Once selected, users can choose from quick preset intervals, such as 2 hours, 8 hours, or 1 day, or customize a specific date and time for the reminder.

When the reminder is active, a small bell icon appears directly on the message bubble, making it easy to track flagged messages.

Here is what it looks like.

At the scheduled time, WhatsApp sends a full notification alert that includes the entire message, any attached media (such as images or videos), and identifies the specific chat it came from, making it simple to jump straight back into the conversation and take action.

These reminders are handled entirely on-device and remain private. Other participants in the chat will not be notified or see any sign of the reminder. Even WhatsApp itself cannot access or store reminder data, maintaining full user privacy.

This addition aims to help users manage critical information more effectively, whether it’s a task from a busy group chat, an important message from a friend, or a work-related question that needs attention later.

While the reminder feature is currently limited to a small group of beta testers on Android, WhatsApp has confirmed it will expand availability to more users in the coming weeks.
