Saudi Arabia: Mecca to instil robots for recitation and sermon in Masjid Al-Haram

Mecca to instil robots for recitation and sermon in Masjid Al-Haram. Saudi Arabia has decided to use technology in religion and has introduced robots that will recite the Holy Quran and provide information to visitors to the holiest site of Islam following the latest technology launched by the presidency of the two holy mosques, Arab reported.

To assist Muslim visitors during their visit to Mecca, the Great Masjid has officially launched new robots that will recite and preach the Holy Quran and give adhans to Kaba visitors.

Smart robots will display barcodes on their screens, allowing users to download services to smartphones after scanning.

Additionally, users can also press commands on robots to access information on prayers, imams, muezzins, and weekly schedules, including the names of the clergy delivering Friday sermons.

The management’s launch of the robots is the start of a series of intelligent technology projects dedicated to the Two Holy Masks to provide advanced services to visitors.

Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Sudais the head of the presidency responsible for all management actions of the Two Holy Masjids, said the launch is part of a “grand strategic plan” to implement the Haramain smart project, according to Vision 2030 and the Strategic 2024 of the Presidency plan to provide better services to visitors.

The purpose of the recitations, sermons, and the azan robot is to convey to visitors the messages of the imams and muezzins of the two sacred mosques.

Al-Sudais has launched other smart robots that work without human intervention, including a disinfection and sterilization robot, a fatwa robot, an intelligent disinfection robot, and a Holy Kaaba surface cleaning robot.

The Presidency of the Two Holy Mosques is eager to provide quality services, leadership, and the latest administrative practices in the Grand Mosque to millions of Muslim visitors from all over the world.

Al-Sudais added that the presidency is determined to move forward and keep pace with digital transformation, support technological development, provide a strategy to create task forces, and ensure the sustainability of the creative culture.

This modern engineering system is not the first to be installed in the Great Mosque of Mecca.

Earlier this year, the Grand Mosque officially introduced a guide robot to assist Muslim pilgrims and answer their questions in 11 languages.

Last year, mosque officials introduced robots to distribute Zamzam water. There were also other robots on the ground to provide sterilization and outbreak control.

The Great Mosque of Mecca also introduced an electronic Quran in December 2021 to help the blind and visually impaired Muslim faithful.

These steps are part of the Kingdom’s overall development plan for 2024 aimed at using modern technologies in the service of the two holy mosques.
