The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will now be able to block inappropriate websites under the new system introduced to prevent immoral content.
According to official sources, under the Domain Name System, the PTA will be able to block inappropriate websites at the domain level (DNS).
Previously, a list of websites was sent to internet service providers for blocking.
“There is no social media monitoring mechanism in the new system,” the PTA spokesman said.
“The new system is designed to block unethical content,” he added.
“The new system will not affect the privacy of citizens,” he claimed.
“The new system will not affect the speed of the internet,” he added.
“The automated system for blocking websites will save time,” he pointed.
