On Monday, PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif questioned claims that the government was attempting to implement a mini-budget in accordance with IMF instructions, claiming that it would devastate Pakistan’s economy, which is already beset by high inflation and unemployment.
The mini-budget is expected to eliminate tax exemptions on mobile phones, stationery, and packaged food goods, while the amendment bill would allow the government to remove sales tax exemptions from zero ratings in addition to exports, according to the newspaper.
Shahbaz said in a statement that the nation will suffer even more if the government implements the mini-budget because gasoline, gas, and electricity will become much more expensive.
He went on to say that raising taxes will further devastate the business community and cause Pakistan’s economy to contract.
Shahbaz requests that the Prime Minister resign.
The doomsday of inflation, according to Shahbaz Sharif, has arrived, and the only hope for the public is for the government to leave.
A mini-budget in line with the IMF’s advice, according to the PML-N leader, would constitute a threat to Pakistan’s national security.
The former Punjab chief minister encouraged the ruling PTI’s coalition allies to oppose the mini-budget, saying it might be harmful enough to paralyse Pakistan’s security capabilities.
