Government ‘accepts all demands’ of PPP.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government has agreed to all major demands from its coalition partner, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), following extensive negotiations.
Sources informed The Asian Mirror on Sunday that the accord was reached after three rounds of dialogue aimed at addressing PPP’s concerns over their role in governance and allocation of federal budget resources.

High-level delegations from both parties engaged in the talks, with the PPP represented by prominent leaders including Raja Pervez Ashraf, Ali Haider Gillani, Nadeem Afzal Chan, and Hassan Murtaza.
The PML-N team featured Punjab Assembly Speaker Ahmed Khan, Rana Sanaullah, and Khawaja Saad Rafique, among others.
Key Agreements and Concessions:
- Development Funds and Administrative Influence: The PML-N has agreed to prioritize the PPP for development funds and administrative appointments in Punjab. This includes significant input from the PPP on district-level appointments, ensuring their influence in areas where they have substantial support.
- Appointment of District Officials: In 12 crucial districts such as Multan, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, Rawalpindi, and Rajanpur, PPP will have a say in the appointment of district deputy commissioners, police officers, and revenue officers.
- Local Bodies Elections: There is a mutual agreement to expedite the holding of local bodies elections, addressing one of PPP’s primary demands.
- Additional Secretary Appointment: The Punjab government will appoint an additional secretary in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat dedicated to resolving issues specifically faced by the PPP.
- Reciprocal Appointments in Sindh: Demonstrating cooperative spirit, the PPP has offered to appoint district officers of PML-N’s choice in Sindh, despite the PML-N’s minimal presence in the province.
Background and Context:
This development follows PPP’s dissatisfaction with their exclusion from critical budget discussions, despite assurances from PML-N that they had been kept informed during the budget preparation process.
Tensions had previously surfaced during the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government, particularly regarding the flood fund allocation.
During the recent committee-level discussions, PPP underscored their grievances about the federal government’s “non-seriousness” towards various Sindh projects.
Conversely, PML-N expressed frustration over PPP’s timing in raising these issues.
The high-level talks were initiated after PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, resulting in the formation of committees to resolve the disputes.
This is what fighting for democracy looks like

As government ‘accepts all demands’ of PPP, both delegations are set to report the outcomes of the negotiations to their respective leaders, with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reviewing the agreements.
Upon their approval, a formal written agreement will be drafted and signed, solidifying the coalition’s renewed commitment to collaborative governance.
