US not concerned about Imran Khan's imprisonment: State Department

In a recent press briefing, the US reiterated its stance of non-interference in Pakistan’s internal affairs, particularly concerning Imran Khan’s imprisonment, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), as conveyed by State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller.

Responding to queries regarding claims made by a Pakistani Senator regarding US involvement in resolving the former prime minister Imran Khan’s imprisonment, Miller emphasized that such matters fall within the purview of the Pakistani government’s jurisdiction.

“No, we do not take a position on those matters. Those are matters for the government of Pakistan to decide,” responded Miller.

Miller also addressed the security situation in Pakistan, expressing condolences for the losses incurred due to terrorist activities.

“Pakistan has suffered a great deal at the hands of terrorists.

We regret the loss of life and injuries sustained and offer our heartfelt condolences to those affected by this terrorist attack and remain committed to working with Pakistan to address the shared threat posed by terrorist groups throughout the region.”

He reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to collaborating with Pakistan to combat the threat posed by terrorist groups in the region.

The spokesperson further touched upon the treatment of Afghan refugees in Pakistan, urging Pakistani authorities to adhere to the non-return advisory.

“We have been in close and constant communication with the Government of Pakistan on the safety of individuals in US resettlement and immigration pathways.”

He highlighted ongoing communication between the United States and Pakistan regarding the safety and resettlement of individuals, emphasizing the mutual interest in ensuring their secure relocation.

Additionally, Miller stressed the importance of coordination with international humanitarian organizations to provide assistance and support protection screening mechanisms for Afghan refugees.
