LHC judges also receive 'threatening letters'

LHC judges also receive ‘threatening letters’. Officials from the Lahore High Court (LHC) Registrar’s Office disclosed on Wednesday that three esteemed judges—Justice Shujaat Ali Khan, Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan, and Justice Alia Neelum—have been targeted with alarming threatening letters.

Heightened Security Measures at LHC:

Promptly responding to the potential security threat, authorities from the counter-terrorism department swiftly mobilized to reinforce security measures at the LHC premises.

In addition, a specialized forensic team has been deployed to meticulously examine the contents of the suspicious letters.

Concurrently, surveillance footage from CCTV cameras surrounding the high court is being meticulously reviewed to ascertain any potential leads.

Anthrax-Laced Letters Alarm IHC Judges:

In a parallel incident, it has been reported by sources to Geo News that eight judges from the Islamabad High Court (IHC), including Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, have been the recipients of letters suspected to be laced with anthrax.

This alarming development has triggered immediate action from law enforcement agencies, who have launched a thorough investigation to identify the source and contents of these ominous letters.

The sender, identified only as a woman named Resham, has not disclosed her address.

Health Hazards Prompt Urgent Inquiry:

Sources revealed that the gravity of the situation escalated when an employee of one of the judges inadvertently came into contact with the envelope containing the suspicious substance.

Consequently, the individual suffered severe irritation to their eyes and sustained burns on the skin surrounding their lips, underscoring the potential health hazards posed by the contents of the letters.

Supreme Court Takes Suo Motu Notice:

These unsettling incidents targeting high court judges have coincided with the Supreme Court’s proactive response.

Following the emergence of the threatening letters, Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa has taken suo motu notice, leading to the formation of a seven-member bench to address the matter.

This significant development underscores the gravity of the situation, particularly in light of accusations leveled by six IHC judges, who have alleged undue interference by intelligence agencies in judicial affairs.

Urgent Supreme Court Intervention:

As LHC judges also receive ‘threatening letters’, the gravity of the situation has compelled the Supreme Court, under the leadership of Chief Justice Isa, to address the matter expeditiously, invoking Article 184(3) of the Constitution.
