Nawaz Sharif to be PM candidate if PML-N gains simple majority.
As the nation gears up for today’s nationwide polls, Shehbaz Sharif, the President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has declared that Nawaz Sharif will be the party’s nominee for prime minister should they secure a simple majority in parliament.
In an exclusive interview on Geo News’ special election transmission, Shehbaz Sharif outlined the party’s strategy in the event of various electoral outcomes.
He indicated that if the PML-N falls short of a simple majority, the decision for the premiership candidate would be made through consultations within the party ranks.
Looking ahead to potential governance scenarios, Shehbaz Sharif underscored the imperative of making significant decisions, hinting at the likelihood of seeking another IMF program.
He also advocated for the privatization of underperforming state-owned entities, attributing to his party the credit for steering the nation clear of a looming default crisis. Stressing the significance of the impending elections, he emphasized that the electorate would shape the future leadership of the country.

In light of recent tragic incidents, including bombings aimed at disrupting the electoral process, Shehbaz Sharif condemned such acts, characterizing them as attempts to dissuade citizens from participating in the democratic process.
He pointed fingers at the previous administration, alleging that their policies had exacerbated the country’s terrorism challenges.
On the electoral front, the PML-N is set to contest in 212 National Assembly (NA) constituencies across the country, while strategically opting out of races in select areas.
Notably, Nawaz Sharif has chosen to run in NA-15 (Mansehra) and NA-130 (Lahore), while other prominent figures such as Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shehbaz will contest from NA-119 and NA-118 Lahore, respectively. Shehbaz Sharif himself will vie for seats in NA-123 and NA-132.
Additionally, the PML-N has engaged in seat adjustment arrangements with Jahangir Tareen’s Independent Power Producers (IPP) to bolster its electoral prospects in certain regions.
Recent opinion polls have positioned the PML-N ahead of its rivals, including Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Bilawal Bhutto’s Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
As Nawaz Sharif to be PM candidate if PML-N gains simple majority, the party’s resurgence in popularity has sparked speculations of Nawaz Sharif’s potential return to the prime ministerial office, earning him the epithet “the king of comebacks” by the BBC.
