LHC rejects Parvez Elahi’s plea to change donkey cart as electoral symbol.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) has dismissed the plea of Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, a prominent leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who sought a change in his assigned election symbol from a ‘donkey cart’ to a ‘peacock’ for the upcoming general elections scheduled for February 8.
The court, presided over by Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan, upheld the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), which had originally designated the ‘donkey cart’ as Elahi’s electoral symbol.
Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, a former chief minister of Punjab, had contested the election symbol allotted to him, urging the court to allocate the symbol of a ‘peacock’ for his electoral campaign.
However, the LHC ruled in favor of maintaining the ECP’s decision, affirming that the ‘donkey cart’ symbol would stand for Elahi in the upcoming elections.

In a parallel development, the Supreme Court had previously granted permission for Chaudhry Parvez Elahi to participate in the elections.
The court entertained appeals from PTI candidates Umer Aslam, Major (retd) Tahir Sadiq, and Chaudhry Parvez Elahi against the rulings of returning officers who had initially rejected their nomination papers from different constituencies.
As LHC rejects Parvez Elahi’s plea to change donkey cart as electoral symbol, consequently, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has been granted approval to contest the general election, representing the PP-32 constituency in the Gujarat district.
Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi is a Pakistani politician who is the former Chief Minister of Punjab. He was a member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab from August 2018 till January 2023, when he, as chief minister, dissolved the assembly.
