Zardari ensures support for no-confidence motion against ruling PTI

ISLAMABAD: As the opposition prepares to launch a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan’s administration, former President Asif Ali Zardari promised the anti-government alliance’s leader, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, that he would endorse the motion.

In a telephonic discussion with the JUI-F leader, the PPP co-chairperson voiced his support, while Fazl inquired about Zardari’s health and the two talked about the country’s broader political condition.

Fazl also stated that he will contact the government’s allies as soon as possible in order to ensure the success of the no-confidence motion. In this regard, the JUI-F chief will speak at today’s Ulema Mashaikh Conference at Raiwind Road.

The anti-government opposition alliance had announced a no-confidence resolution against Prime Minister Imran Khan’s administration the day before.

The former president remarked in January that his chances of rejoining the PDM were low.

During a press conference on February 11, the JUI-F leader stated that the PDM meeting participants unanimously decided to bring a no-confidence motion against the “incompetent” government, adding that the ruling party’s allies will also be approached in this regard.

“We will urge them [the PTI government’s coalition partners] to have some mercy on the Pakistani people, given how they have been treated [by the existing regime] over the previous few years,” he continued.

A committee will also be formed, according to Fazl, to contact the government’s friends. The members of the committee, he stressed, would be named later.
