No plan to arrest Imran Khan yet, says CM Mohsin Naqvi

No plan to arrest Imran Khan yet, according to CM Mohsin Naqvi. Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated on Sunday that the government has made no decision about the detention of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan.

Following Khan’s arrest in a corruption case on May 9 — a day the army dubbed “Black Day” — his outraged workers stormed military buildings, including the Lahore Corps Commanders House and the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.

The temporary chief minister made the remarks during a press conference in Lahore, following rumours that the authorities were considering labeling Khan’s Zaman Park apartment in Lahore a sub-jail and placing him under house arrest.

No plan to arrest Imran Khan yet, according to CM Mohsin Naqvi.

However, thousands of employees arrested in connection with the May 9 violence include women, according to the PTI, who claims that their female supporters have been mistreated in prison.

In a speech, PTI Chairman Khan asked the judiciary to intervene in the alleged maltreatment of his female employees while they were imprisoned, requesting that the Supreme Court take a suo motu notice on the case.

However, the chief minister refuted the allegations.

“Women have been dealt with in line with the law. [PTI] is resorting to propaganda regarding women being mistreated in prisons,” the chief minister said.

CM Naqvi said 32 women were arrested and only 11 of them are still in jail now. The top provincial official added that it is his government’s duty to ensure that “mothers and sisters remain safe”.

“The events that took place on May 9 are unprecedented,” he said.

The chief minister further stated that the government would exercise no restraint, regardless of how powerful the alleged assailants of Jinnah House might be.

In answer to a query, CM Naqvi stated that Khadija Shah, a supporter of the PTI, was being held by the police and an identity parade will be conducted for her.

The query was raised as Shah’s video apology for her “actions” on May 9 went viral on social media on Sunday.
