The Azad Kashmir High Court sentenced PM Tanveer Ilyas and instructed the election commission to start the process for his disqualification.
The chief judge declared, “Your punishment will be as long as you are in the court.”
The AJK High Court previously received an unconditional apology from PM Tanveer Ilyas for his remarks regarding the judiciary.
The suo motu notice was heard by the entire court bench, which was presided over by the chief justice.
“I apologize,” was the prime minister’s brief answer to the court. “You should be careful. Your previous record is also not good,” the court remarked and sought a written reply from the prime minister.
“Come back here at half past one. Now go to the Supreme Court,” the full court bench told the prime minister.
Earlier, the AJK prime minister had reached Muzaffarabad from Islamabad by helicopter to appear before the High Court and then the Supreme Court.
The AJK ministers, Muzaffarabad divisional and district administration, and a large number of PTI workers had welcomed him.
The High Court and the Supreme Court had summoned Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan for clarification on his statements regarding the judiciary.
In a speech, the prime minister of the AJK called the courts’ attention to the stay orders issued by the higher judiciary.
The Supreme Court and the High Court summoned the prime minister on the same day for the first time in the state’s history.
After extensive deliberation with attorneys, the prime minister decided to appear before the courts the other night.
A sizable group of PTI employees had gathered in front of the High Court for the occasion. Tanveer Ilyas Khan, the prime minister, rallied his way to the High Court.
Both courts had issued a summons notice to the prime minister of the AJK.
“AJK Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas has been targeting the Supreme Court in public places for the past few months,” it had been stated in the notice.
“He threatened the judges and spoke rudely about them. His statement has appeared in social media and newspapers. An emergency meeting of the council of judges was convened to discuss the matter,” it had been added.
“It was decided by an overwhelming majority that this matter cannot be ignored as the honor of the judiciary is at stake. No one can be allowed to undermine the authority of the judiciary. Before the notice of defamation, the prime minister is asked to appear in person and clarify his position,” it had been said.
