New Gwadar airport

The Gwadar Airport is almost ready for flight operations and will be inaugurated soon.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to inaugurate the airport in Balochistan’s Gwadar district on March 23, as well-placed sources confirm that the airport has undergone a safety check and is fully prepared for flight operations.

The airport, which is located 26 kilometers east of Gwadar, costs more than $200 million. Interestingly, the airport’s groundbreaking ceremony was held in March 2019 by then-Prime Minister Imran Khan.

According to the website of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, the project was completed on time, as the deadline was March 2023.

Earlier in the day, Minister of Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal presided over a review meeting on the “Test flight at the Gwadar Airport” in Islamabad.

Participants discussed the status of projects such as the CAA Complex, landslide infrastructure, cargo building, Airport Security Force (ASF) Camp for 1,050 personnel, and the 132kV grid station.

The airport is a critical component of the multibillion-dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project.

Aside from a road network, the airport would allow investors and tourists to land in the beautiful city and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere while looking for business opportunities.

Gwadar is a port city located on the southwestern coast of Balochistan, Pakistan. The city is located on the shores of the Arabian Sea opposite Oman.

Gwadar is the 100th largest city in Pakistan, according to the 2017 census. It was an overseas possession of Oman from 1783 to 1958.
