Punjab home minister Hashim Dogar resigns

Punjab Home Minister Hashim Dogar resigned from the ministry on Tuesday. Hashim Dogar stated in his letter of resignation to Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi,” I don’t want to continue working as Home Minister of Punjab. I am resigning due to some unavoidable, personal reasons.”

The Punjab administration, according to Hashim Dogar, will not endorse Imran Khan’s proposal for a long march to Islamabad. The minister had remarked, “The provincial government will not become a part of Imran Khan’s long march as it was a political issue”, the minister had said.

He declared that while security would be given to them, they would not assist the protesters of the long march. Following the remark, CM Pervaiz Elahi had declared, “One person has gone mad,” a few days prior.

The PTI members were upset by this statement, and the Punjab Chief Minister was not happy with him. When PTI Chairman Imran Khan instructed his party’s office holders to make sure that thousands of workers gathered for the Azadi March, the home minister had already made the remark.

The PTI leadership believed Dogar had failed to discipline those police officers who used “worst torture” on PTI members during the May 25 long march and to give the PMLN a hard time. Hamid Mir, the anchor of the Geo News program, stated on Tuesday that he had learned that PTI Chairman Imran Khan had forced Col. (Ret.) Hashim Dogar to resign because he was unhappy with the outgoing minister.

Imran Khan, according to Mir, called Dogar and requested his resignation. Mir claimed that Imran had been receiving Dogar-related information, whether accurate or not. Dogar did not participate in the blockage of the movement of containers to Islamabad in order to obstruct the PTI’s lengthy march, Mir said, adding that Imran was informed that Dogar belongs to the unit of a senior official of the establishment and frequently interacts with him.

Mir claimed that Dogar shared Mir’s opinion that the Punjab government would watch over the long march but would not participate in it.
