The Iranian government has announced nationwide mourning ceremonies to mark the 40th day of the martyrdom of Ayatollah Khamenei, according to an official statement.

Authorities said that condolence gatherings and recitations of the Holy Quran will begin across the country on Tuesday, April 8. As part of the commemorations, a mourning march is scheduled for Thursday, proceeding from Islamic Republic Square to the site where Ayatollah Khamenei was killed.

The central nationwide ceremony marking the 40th day will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m., with events planned simultaneously in major cities and towns across Iran.

Iranian officials reiterated that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was martyred on February 28, when the United States and Israel allegedly carried out a bombing at his office in Tehran. The attack, according to Iranian authorities, resulted in his death and significantly escalated regional tensions.

The 40th day of mourning, known in Islamic tradition as Chehlum, holds deep religious and cultural significance in Iran and is traditionally observed with large public gatherings, prayers, and processions.

The announcement comes amid heightened political and security tensions in the region, with Iranian officials continuing to accuse Washington and Tel Aviv of responsibility for the attack.
