Massive coordinated missile strikes observed in Ukraine by Russia

Russian forces conducted massive, coordinated missile strikes on over 20 Ukrainian cities. Putin claimed the strikes were in retaliation for the explosion on the Kerch Strait Bridge, likely in part to curry favor with “pro-war” factions.

Ukraine said 14 people were killed and 97 injured in Russian airstrikes on its cities on Monday. The attack comes within 48 hours of the explosion of a vital bridge linking Ukraine with Russia-annexed Crimea, for which Russian President Vladimir Putin has blamed Ukraine.

The explosions were reported in Kiev, Lviv, Ternopil and Zhytomyr in western Ukraine, Dnipro and Kremenchuk in the center, Zaporizhzhya in the south and Kharkov in the east, Ukrainian officials said. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke with US President Joe Biden on Monday, then wrote on Telegram that air defense was “the number 1 priority in our defense cooperation.”

At the end of Monday, India voted to reject Russia’s call for a secret vote in the UN General Assembly on a draft resolution condemning Moscow’s “illegal” annexation of four regions of Ukraine. Moscow’s call for a secret ballot was rejected after 107 UN member states, including India, voted in favor of a registered voter.
