According to state television, a top commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was fatally shot on Friday amid skirmishes with an anti-regime shooter.
According to Tasnim news agency, Ali Mousavi, a prominent member of the IRGC in the province of Sistan-Baluchestan, was assassinated in Zahedan, in the region’s southeast.
In connection with ongoing anti-government protests following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini earlier this month, state media reportedly reported that a firefight broke out at a police station in the city earlier that day.
After being taken into custody by Iran’s morality police, she passed away.
While anti-regime protests have erupted in cities all over the world, at least 76 people have died in Tehran’s bloody crackdown on protestors.
