Recep Erdogan eyeing SCO membership

Turkey halts all trade with Israel amid worsening Palestinian situation

Turkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he was looking for membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) for Turkiye.

He said this while speaking to reporters after attending the SCO summit in Uzbekistan before heading to the United States.

“Our relations with these countries (SCO members) will be moved to a much different position with this step,” Erdogan said, adding “of course, that’s the target” when asked if he meant membership of the SCO.

Mr. Erdogan also said Ankara and Moscow had reached a deal resolving a dispute over a nuclear power plant being built at Akkuyu in southern Turkiye, reinstating a Turkish contractor.
