France arrests one suspect in Khashoggi murder case

According to French media, one of the alleged killers of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was apprehended at the Roissy airport near Paris on Tuesday as he was about to board a flight to Riyadh.

According to news agency, the guy seized was a former Saudi Royal Guard who is suspected of being involved in the murder of Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in October 2018.

On October 2, 2018, Khashoggi, a critic of Prince Mohammed, was last spotted entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. His corpse was mutilated and removed, according to Turkish officials. His remains have yet to be discovered.

In September 2020, a Saudi court sentenced eight persons to prison terms ranging from seven to twenty years for the murders, in a trial that opponents said was lacking in openness. The defendants were not identified.
