Iconic Bollywood singer-composer Bappi Lahiri passes away at 69

Bappi Lahiri, a legendary Bollywood singer-composer best known for his infamous disco compositions, has died at the age of 69, according to PTI. Over the previous month, the artist had been having treatment for a variety of health difficulties. Rema, his daughter, and Bappa, his son, survive him.

Dr. Deepak Namjoshi, director of Mumbai’s CritiCare hospital, told PTI that Lahiri was being treated there “Bappi Lahiri had been in the hospital for a month prior to getting discharged on Monday. On Tuesday, however, his health began to deteriorate, and his family requested that a doctor come to their home. He was taken to a hospital. He was suffering from a variety of ailments. He died shortly before midnight from OSA (obstructive sleep apnea).”

Lahiri was the face of Bollywood disco music in the 1980s and 1990s, writing the soundtracks for songs like Disco Dancer, Namak Halaal, and Chalte Chalte. His signature jewelry, which consisted of multiple heavy gold chains and dazzling rings, made him instantly recognizable.

The song Bhankas from the 2020 film Baaghi 3 was the composer’s most recent contribution to Bollywood.
