Ombudsperson summon Nadia Khan for insulting Sharmila’s mother

ISLAMABAD: Kashmala Tariq, the Federal Ombudsperson for Protection Against Harassment (FOSPAH), summoned prominent television anchor Nadia Khan on Monday for allegedly ridiculing PPP member Sharmila Faruqi’s makeup expertise.

Anisa Farooqi, the complainant, alleged in her lawsuit that the TV host “ridiculed and insulted” her makeup skills in a video clip posted on her official YouTube account.

“The accused [Nadia Khan] utilised a caustic tone and demeanour in order to seek exposure, likes, and recognition based on insignificant and irrelevant comments made to the Complainant [Ansia Farooqui].” The accused even published the video clip to her YouTube channel without first obtaining the complainant’s consent, infringing on and invading the complainant’s privacy rights,” according to the plaintiff’s case filed with the FOSPAH by counsel Amna Hassan Sheikh.

Nadia Khan has also been forbidden from making any public statements or discussing the case with the media until the next court date, which is set for February 2. (Wednesday).

Nadia Khan had also been given a Rs50 million defamation notice by the PPP MPA for her video clip starring the former’s mother.

Nadia has 15 days to recant her words, apologise, and pay Rs50 million in compensation, according to the notice. The notice reads, “On behalf of Mrs Sharmila Farooqi, Member of the Sindh Provincial Assembly, who has instructed me to serve upon you the following legal notice under Section 8 of the Defamation Ordinance, 2002, on account of a defamatory video published by you on your YouTube channel, namely Outstyle, on January 20, 2022,”

In retaliation, the TV personality said he will serve Sharmila with a Rs500 million defamation notice.

In an Instagram post, she claimed, “My attorneys are issuing a legal notice to Sharmila Faruqui, suing her for Rs500 million for defamation and using disparaging statements for a woman.”
