Pathaan beats Bajrangi Bhaijaan to become 5th highest-grossing Indian film. After beating Aamir Khan’s Secret Superstar and Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan in box office revenue, Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan is now the fifth-highest-grossing Indian film in history. According to Yash Raj Films, the movie has currently earned a total of ₹946 crores over the world. It still trails RRR by SS Rajamouli, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, KGF Chapter 2, and Dangal, the sole Bollywood film.
The plot of Pathaan centres on the titular spy (Shah Rukh Khan), who emerges from exile to prevent Outfit X, a terrorist organisation led by John Abraham’s Jim, from attacking India. The film’s female lead is played by Deepika Padukone, and Ashutosh Rana and Dimple Kapadia also play significant roles.

On Monday, YRF tweeted that Pathaan has become the highest-grossing Hindi film in the history of Indian cinema (original language) with a gross worldwide collection of ₹946 crores. As per the studio, the gross collection in India stands at ₹588 crores (nett ₹489 crores) and the gross overseas collection stands at ₹358 crores.
Following Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), and War (2019), which also starred Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff, Pathaan is the fourth film in YRF’s spy universe.
Shah Rukh is thrilled about Pathaan’s success and praises Siddharth Anand for making an action movie a ‘fun, good looking and technically forward’. “I think this genre of film nobody knows better than Siddharth. He knows this kind of cinema very well. I just love the world that Siddharth makes,” he said in a behind-the-scenes video released by YRF.
“It’s an action film that is close to my heart. I think it is made with a lot of goodness by a lot of good people… I think it’s cinematic, which is the call of the day. It’s a film you want to watch on a big screen,” he added.
