Muneeb Butt to play 1st trans assistant commissioner in new drama
We share Muneeb Butt’s excitement over recently announcing the most distinctive role of his showbiz career. In his future production with Saba Qamar, the Qalandar actor claimed that he will play the first trans assistant commissioner.
Although trans actor Alina Khan’s performance in Joyland in 2022 drew criticism, it is encouraging to see that more shows in 2023 will include trans people and their experiences, if not actors. Butt announced his newest untitled project on Instagram on Sunday with images from the set, eager to dispel misconceptions.
“I am very excited to announce that I am playing a unique character of the first trans assistant commissioner in my upcoming project, something that breaks certain stereotypes in our society,” he captioned the post.

Dressed in a grey and white suit, he added that the role has been “the most challenging one” of his career. “I had been anxiously waiting to reveal the character that I will be playing soon. It has been the most challenging role I have ever had to play, where I had to truly get out of my comfort zone.” The actor hoped that his fans would enjoy this new avatar and give him feedback that matters the most to him.
He also thanked his co-star Qamar, who was also photographed in the post in a pink shalwar kameez. Earlier this week, Qamar also posted a picture in the same outfit behind the steering wheel in a taxi. “I’ve been waiting to announce that I am part of a very unique and special project coming soon,” she wrote while reiterating that her upcoming serial is actually a “special” one. Now we know why!
There are still no details available regarding the plot, name, release date, or the remainder of the cast.
Qamar is working on another intriguing project at the moment. The actor finally gets to play the part of a lifetime after longing to portray a politician on screen. In Qamar’s next film Mandi, the actress will play a politician by the name of Uzma.

The online series also features Mikaal Zulfiqar and is Ainy Jaffri’s return to the screen. However, neither the actors nor the producers have confirmed that Maryam Nawaz Sharif, PML-N vice president, is greatly influenced by Qamar’s character Uzma.
