Teaser of Pakistan’s Cannes-winning film “Joyland” released
The much-awaited, Cannes Award-winning movie Joyland has finally released its teaser. It provides glimpses of the happiness and sorrow that are about to take place in the internationally acclaimed Saim Sadiq film.
The 45-second clip of the obviously multi-dimensional film shows a variety of colours and diversity for a world that is typically depicted in films in shades of dreary red and dismal grey. It exposes the globe to a side of the country that is hardly ever seen, discussed, or not in a bad light.
A man in love, a woman in the wilderness, a family partying in a large, fragile bubble that is likely to break, and a transwoman covered in blood are all depicted in the teaser. The teaser then gives hints.The teaser then gives viewers a preview of the performance that is about to start as they wait to be mesmerised by dance, misery, and dreams that vanish in a puff of glitter and smoke.
On November 18, Joyland is scheduled for release in Pakistani theatres. It first gained attention when it won the Cannes Queer Palm prize for best LGBT, queer, or feminist-themed film. It features a daring portrait of a transgender dancer in a Muslim country.
It depicts the narrative of the youngest son in a patriarchal family who is expected to have a boy with his wife, and it is a tale of the sexual revolution. It received the Jury Prize in the “Un Certain Regard” section and was the first-ever Pakistani film to compete at the Cannes Film Festival. The movie is also Pakistan’s official Oscar submission. Ali Junejo, Rasti Farooq, Alina Khan, and Sarwat Gilani are the stars of Joyland.
