This year’s 11th annual Washington DC film festival, which runs from November 1 to 8, will feature a screening of Javed Iqbal.
The DC South Asian Arts Council is in charge of organising the event. The nonprofit organisation strives to give South Asian artists opportunity to demonstrate their skills in a variety of mediums, including films, dance, music, books, theatre, cooking, fashion, and painting. India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, the Maldives, and Tibet will all submit films to the festival this year.
Javed Iqbal had its international premiere at the UK Film Festival in May, where Hussain earned the Best Actor prize, and the Best Director prize went to Ali Sajjad Shah, also known as Abu Aleeha.
Javed Iqbal was originally scheduled to debut in October of last year, but because the censor boards were still reviewing it, the premiere date was moved to December 24. Due to an increase of Covid-19 instances, December also turned out to be unlucky for the movie’s release. Later, January 28 was chosen as the new release date.
The movie’s Karachi premiere, which took place on January 25 at Nueplex Cinema in response to the new release date, was attended by the cast, crew, and other representatives of the entertainment industry.

The director announced on Twitter the very following day that the Punjab government has stopped the movie from opening in theatres. There has been no news regarding the film’s potential Pakistani release in the nearly nine months since it was outlawed.
The investigation into Javed Iqbal, a serial murderer who murdered 100 young boys in Lahore and reported his crimes to the police and media in 1999, is the basis for the movie.
