“Laugh but be respectful” Azekah Daniel walks off talk show

Actor Azekah Daniel recently attended a comedy show where the line between humour and insensitivity was crossed. Comedians should always be aware of this thin line.

The 26-year-old left the performance crying from the “hurtful” jokes she heard that night after succumbing to sugarcoated insults in the name of entertainment at a recent outing.

The actor used Twitter to emphasise how difficult it is to distinguish between humour and offence.

Without naming the show, Daniel shared her terrible experience on Twitter over the weekend. She wrote, “So today I walked out of a show because some comedians clearly don’t understand the difference between humour or degrading someone,” highlighting the point that jokes are meant to amuse rather than offend. “As I walked away from the crowded set, tears started to fall. Jokes are intended to be humorous, not offensive.”

Quickly, messages of agreement and regret for the Dunk actor flooded the comment section. A viewer, feeling bad for Daniel, had a message for programmes who will do everything to boost their numbers.

“Stop demeaning and putting down other people in the name of humour for the sake of your show’s ratings. It’s horrible to hear that someone was degraded to the point where they had to leave the show midway through,” they said. Others urged Daniel to publicly humiliate the comedian(s) and “reveal the show’s name.”

Presently, Daniel may be seen in the family drama Hasrat. Actors Hira Tareen, Mashal Khan, Hammad Shoaib, and Behroze Sabzwari also play significant roles in the programme.
