Former federal minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Hammad Azhar is said to have been arrested.
The ex-minister was apprehended alongside Rana Sajid at the Wazirabad bypass. They were heading to Islamabad.
The government has launched a crackdown on PTI members in order to keep them from causing trouble. Aside from the intense sweep, large-scale arrests were also part of the strategy to keep the state writ.
Furthermore, roadblocks and containers were strategically placed along the route to the federal capital.
According to reports, the PTI protesters set fire to trees near a metro station and clashed with police.
The Interior Ministry has issued orders to stop former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s convoy at Peshawar Morr.
The police have been instructed to prevent the convoy from entering the federal capital, while the marchers have been directed to H9 Ground.
According to sources, such a move could spark a violent clash between police and supporters of the PTI chief.
Islamabad IG Dr Akbar Nasir Khan met with law enforcement officers at D-Chowk and thanked them for doing their jobs to keep the peace.
He stated that they did their part to keep the state writ.
The violent protester pelted the police with stones, injuring eight officers and seven Rangers.
