Police detain PTI leaders Ijaz Chaudhry, Mehmood ur Rasheed ahead of ‘Azadi March’

With the clock ticking on the PTI’s ‘Azadi March,’ police arrested Senator Ejaz Chaudhry, Punjab senior leader Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed, and other party workers on Tuesday.

The police continued to raid the homes of PTI leaders and workers as the government decided to halt the PTI’s ‘Azadi March,’ which was scheduled to begin today (May 25).

Despite the government’s ban, ex-prime minister and PTI chairman Imran Khan and other party leaders have vowed to march to Islamabad for the sit-in until new elections are announced.

A day before, Punjab Police raided the homes of several PTI leaders, including former energy minister Hammad Azhar, Usman Dar, and Babar Awan, and a police constable was killed during a raid in Lahore.

The government will not allow the PTI march to prevent the spread of ‘fitna’ and ‘fasad,’ says the interior minister.

In a late-night raid on Tuesday, police arrested senior PTI leader Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed under Section 16 of the Public Order Act (MPO).

Earlier, police raided the home of former education minister Shafqat Mehmood, but he was not present.

PTI Punjab President Shafqat Mehmood, while condemning the police action, tweeted that the police had raided his home without a search warrant.

“I wasn’t there,” he said on Twitter, adding, “Do they really think these tactics will intimidate us?”

Later, a PTI spokesperson claimed that Senator Ejaz Chaudhry had been arrested and was being held in an unknown location.

In Karachi, police raid the homes of PTI MNAs and arrest party members

Meanwhile, police launched an investigation into the PTI Sindh leadership and arrested several workers.

The PML-N government has decided to halt Imran Khan’s Azadi March in Islamabad in order to maintain law and order.

The federal cabinet has decided not to allow the PTI to continue its long march in order to prevent the spread of “fitna” and “fasad,” according to Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah.

Police raided Karachi’s Shah Rasool colony area in the early hours of Wednesday and arrested five PTI workers, including local party leader Pervaiz Khan.

According to the SSP South, the arrested PTI workers planned to protest at Teen Talwar.

The homes of PTI MNAs Shakoor Shaad and Aftab Jahangir in Karachi were also raided, but they were not present.

However, Aftab Jahangir’s nephew was arrested and taken to an unknown location.
