ISLAMABAD: PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman have said that only a national government can lead the country out of the current crisis “created” by the previous government.
During a meeting at Zardari House on Friday, both leaders agreed that Pakistan is their top priority and that they would take all necessary steps to improve the country in consultation with all ruling alliance members.
The meeting between the two key leaders of the ruling coalition is significant in light of the country’s ongoing political crisis caused by the PTI’s pressure on the incumbent government to call snap elections.
According to a statement issued following the meeting, both parties agreed that all decisions would be made in consultation with coalition partners and that this practice would continue in the future.
The meeting was held as part of ongoing consultations among the ruling coalition partners.
Asif Zardari met with former Prime Minister and PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Thursday.
The PPP co-chairman thanked Shujaat for his unwavering support for the coalition government and reassured him about the current political situation.
PML-Q federal ministers Chaudhry Salik Hussain and Tariq Bashir Cheema, as well as party MNA Farrukh Khan, were also present.
The meeting was deemed significant because the coalition government needed to make difficult decisions in the coming days and consultation was underway to bring all coalition partners on the same page.
It was Asif Zardari’s second meeting with Ch Shujaat following the formation of the coalition government.
