After President Alvi’s refusal to approve Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s summary to remove Omar Cheema from his post, Omar Sarfaraz Cheema was denotified as Punjab governor, The Asian Mirror reported.
On Monday, President Arif Alvi rejected Prime Minister Shehbaz’s recommendation that Governor Punjab Cheema is removed from office.
A statement from the President’s Secretariat says that President Alvi has informed Prime Minister Modi that the governor of Punjab cannot be removed without his consent.
Omar Cheema was removed from his position as governor of Punjab late Monday night by the cabinet division, despite the President’s denial of the PM’s advice.
In accordance with Article 101 of the Pakistani constitution, as well as the proviso to Article 48 (1), and the Prime Minister’s advice (s) rendered on 17-04-2022 and 01-05-2022 for the removal of Governor Punjab, Mr. Omer Sarfaraz Cheema has been sacked from the post with immediate effect,” the notification read.
The Acting Governor of Punjab will now be Speaker of the Punjab Assembly until a new governor is appointed, according to the notification.
As a result of his resignation as governor, Omar Cheema has also had his security removed, according to reports.
The president rejects the prime minister’s recommendation to remove the governor of Punjab.
Imran Khan appointed incumbent Governor Cheema to the post during his final days in power, and he has since been causing problems for the PML-N in Punjab. After refusing to administer the oath of office to Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz, the governor sparked a constitutional crisis.
Pakistan’s Supreme Court ordered NA Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf to swear in Hamza after the Lahore High Court issued an order.
For more information about how Cheema intends to enforce the Punjab Constitution, see his remarks from last week, in which the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) urged the state’s elected chief minister to provide him with “a subedar and four soldiers” before he could arrest Hamza Shehbaz Sharif.

Rehman, a Bhawalpur native, was twice elected to the National Assembly from the NA-185 district: in 2008 and again in 2013. The PML-victory N’s in the 2013 elections made him the state minister for education, the interior, and narcotics control when Nawaz Sharif became prime minister.
