No more load shedding across the country: Ministry

ISLAMABAD: According to the Minister of Energy, the country’s power load-shedding has been reduced to zero as promised by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at 5 a.m. today.

The Ministry of Energy said on Twitter that it has worked hard to increase the national grid’s capacity by more than 2500 Megawatts.

On Eid and beyond, a representative for the minister said, “The ministry is continually attempting to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply.”

PM Shehbaz Sharif had issued the directives while chairing an emergency conference aimed at resolving the country’s electrical crisis.

A load-shedding issue in summer shouldn’t cause problems for the public, and he instructed the relevant agencies to act quickly to remedy the situation.

He also sought a long-term, comprehensive plan to eliminate the losses of loss-making power distribution firms.

The prime minister received a full briefing on power generation, transmission, and use in the country during the meeting.

The prime minister was informed that out of 27 power plants that had been shut down for more than a year, 20 had been brought back online.

During the meeting, it was revealed that the previous government failed to supply the fuel needed to run the power plants on schedule. As a result of the lack of timely maintenance of power plants, a power crisis ensued.

The prime minister was informed that the overall generation of 18,500 megawatts has been achieved. There is a shortage of 500 to 2,000 megawatts in terms of demand.
