Punjab E-Taxi Initiative Gains Momentum as Hundreds Advance to Next Stage

The Government of Punjab has made notable progress in its eco-friendly e-taxi program, with hundreds of applicants advancing to the next stage of the initiative.

Officials reported that around 380 candidates have already submitted their down payments for the scheme. The response to the program has been overwhelming, with over 350,000 applications received in total.

Shortlisting and Down Payments

Provincial official Bilal Akbar Khan stated that 1,100 candidates were shortlisted through a balloting process. Authorities are now contacting eligible applicants to complete their down payment requirements, while the scrutiny process for applications is nearly complete.

Under the scheme, the Punjab government plans to roll out 1,100 electric taxis with a total subsidy of Rs 6 billion. The minimum down payment for the vehicles is Rs 650,000, while the maximum is Rs 850,000. Applicants who have already submitted their down payments are expected to receive their vehicles soon.

Focus on Inclusion and Sustainability

The program prioritizes participation from the corporate sector, women, and professional drivers. It aims to promote environmentally friendly transportation while delivering social and economic benefits across the province.

By encouraging the adoption of electric taxis, the initiative is expected to reduce emissions, improve urban mobility, and support sustainable economic growth in Punjab.
