Punjab to Provide Free State Land to Peasants Under ‘Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar’ Scheme

Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced that free state-owned agricultural land will be provided to peasants starting in April under the “Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar” initiative, marking a major step toward strengthening Punjab’s agricultural sector and supporting the rural economy.

In an official statement, the chief minister said that all cultivable government land across Punjab will be leased to eligible peasants for a 10-year period, with each beneficiary receiving up to five acres free of charge. She clarified that no lease payments will be collected during this period.

Financial Support for Immediate Cultivation

Maryam Nawaz added that beneficiaries will also receive financial assistance alongside the land allocation, enabling them to begin cultivation without delay.

The initiative aims to enhance agricultural productivity, create employment opportunities, and improve livelihoods in rural areas.

The scheme was first unveiled on February 4 during the inauguration ceremony of an electric bus service in Rajanpur, where the chief minister announced that approximately 250,000 acres of land would be distributed among deserving and underprivileged individuals.

Authorities are expected to release detailed eligibility criteria and application procedures in the coming days.

Green Tractor Programme Sets New Record

Separately, speaking at the launch ceremony of the CM Green Tractor Programme Phase-III, the chief minister formally initiated the balloting process and congratulated successful farmers.

She noted that while 20,000 tractors were distributed over the past 25 years, her government has delivered 31,000 tractors in just two years, setting a new provincial record.

During the event, Maryam Nawaz personally contacted selected farmers, including Hamza Liaquat from Bahawalpur, to inform them of their success in the draw.

The chief minister said the Green Tractor Scheme is transforming Punjab’s agricultural landscape, emphasizing that access to modern machinery will significantly improve crop yields.

She reaffirmed that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz remains committed to farmer-friendly policies and will continue to prioritize agricultural development across the province.
